On July 19th we learned about 16-year old Manila from our partner organization in Bangladesh. She was trafficked to Ahmedabad, Gujarat. We were able to track her on 2nd August. We had a good source who gave us updates about Manila. But even with the source, we were finding it hard to pinpoint Manila’s location. Once again on the 3rd night we got a good lead about her location, she was being exploited in an apartment.
On 4th August our source gave us Manila’s exact location. We immediately took all the evidence we had and proceeded to the police station. We wanted to meet the Police Commissioner, but he was attending to another matter. We were directed to an officer of the Anti Human Trafficking Unit, AHTU. After reviewing all the evidence, the officer directed us to another police officer who would be assisting us in the rescue.
At 2 pm we left and waited for our team to verify Manila’s presence at the apartment. After we got confirmation, the police went straight to the apartment where Manila was being held. Manila and a suspected minor were rescued from the apartment.

While we were involved in post rescue operations, we got a fresh lead from our source. A few buildings away there were a few more victims being sexually exploited and being monitored by a 35 year old female brothel keeper. The police and our team proceeded to the location. The police and our team were able to rescue a forced major but the male pimp managed to escape.
After the police filed their initial report, the victims, accused and our team proceeded to the police station where the police collected details from the victims.
On 5th August, we accompanied the victims for their medical test. The police insisted that the victims complete all their medical tests. They were then produced before the Child Welfare Committee, they ordered the minor be placed in a shelter home in Ahmedabad. The major girls were kept in police custody and will share their statements when they are produced in court next.
