On 12th March 2026, we received information about a victim being exploited in Bundi, Rajasthan. Our team immediately left to verify the information. The brothel was located in a remote village, in the middle of the Kanjar community. It appeared like a normal village area, making it difficult to suspect any illegal activity. The brothel consisted of four small rooms placed close together. The surroundings included small clothing and liquor shops, which gave the place a regular marketplace appearance. There were no visible signs to indicate exploitation, and everything looked ordinary from the outside.
On 15th March 2026, the team went to meet the Additional Superintendent of Police, but she was unavailable. The team went to visit the police station again on 16th March 2026, and met the Superintendent of Police and explained the urgency of rescuing the victim.
While we were moving toward the location, we received a call informing us that the area had already been alerted. We immediately informed the Additional Superintendent of Police that our information had been leaked. She stated that no further action could be taken without involving the local police station. We were then directed to the Nodal Officer, who also insisted on the same procedure.
On 17th March 2026, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) informed us that the Inspector General of Police, Kota, Rajasthan had instructed the Superintendent of Police of Bundi to rescue the victim within three days.
On 25th March 2026, we prepared for the rescue operation along with the Special Police Force. However, we were informed that the victim could not be located at that time, and we had to wait for further information. Later that evening, we received an update that the victim was now in Bundi and we could go ahead with our rescue.
On 26th March 2026, our team left early for Bundi and informed the Special Police Officer to join us before 12:00 pm. After reaching Bundi, our team and the police divided into two groups and moved toward the location. On the way, we received information that the victim was engaged by someone else.
We began searching the area and detained the brothel keeper and nearby shopkeepers to prevent anyone from escaping. The brothel keeper denied the presence of any victim. However, one of our team members noticed suspicious signs pointing toward a nearby house.
When we checked the house, we found the victim, 16 year old Rumana inside and safely rescued her.

During the rescue, a mob gathered and the situation turned hostile within minutes. They tried to forcibly take Rumana from us. To ensure her safety, we immediately left the area. The police escorted Rumana and took seven individuals to the police station for questioning.
At the police station, Rumana refused to give any statement. The police also refused to register a First Information Report (FIR) under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. Our social workers counselled Rumana. She continued to keep silent. Later that night, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Bundi intervened, and Rumana was sent there for further counselling.
After some time, we received confirmation from the Child Welfare Committee, CWC, that Rumana was cooperating and had given a supportive statement.
On 28th March 2026, after continuous follow-up and coordination with the Child Welfare Committee CWC, police authorities, and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights NCPCR, the First Information Report, FIR was finally registered against the accused. The police took Rumana for a medical examination at a nearby hospital. After all the procedures were completed Rumana was placed at a protective home in Bundi, Rajasthan.
