We first learned about Mazina, a Bangladeshi victim who was trafficked to India on 19th February 2024 and was being sexually exploited.  We were not able to learn more about her whereabouts for a few weeks.

On 20th April,  we learned that Mazina was trafficked to North 24 Parganas in West Bengal.  Our social workers Shelly and Shreyosi took the information they had on Mazina and  met the Senior Superintendent of Police, (SSP). Since they did not have a prior appointment with the SSP, Shelly and Shreyosi were directed to the Anti Human Trafficking Unit, AHTU.

The AHTU verified all the details about Mazina. They were unable to trace her current location.   We shared this with the SSP. After speaking to the SSP, the SSP asked us to connect with the Superintendent of Police, (SP,) Basirhat.  As soon as we got confirmation that Mazina was present at the address where she was being held, we requested the SSP to initiate the rescue. He told us to coordinate with the SP for the rescue.

After speaking to the SP, the SP verified that there was a Bangaldeshi victim at the location.  But they were not able to initiate a raid as it was already late and they would execute the rescue operation the next day.  The team pleaded with the SP not to push the rescue to another day as there was a high possibility that Mazina may disappear from the area. He then directed us to the Officer in Charge (OC) of Rajbari Outpost.

After explaining the situation to the OC, the OC agreed to initiate the raid.  He told us to wait at a particular point. We waited for 30 minutes and then Shreyosi called the police officer.  The OC told the team to come to Rajbari Outpost.

At 10:55 pm, the police officer, Mazina and her sister in law came to  Rajbari Outpost.  Mazina, her sister in law and our team proceeded to the police station. At the police station, Mazina shared that she was trafficked from Bangladesh and was moved to different locations in India where she was sexually exploited. Mazina was admitted in the hospital for the night as she was eight months pregnant. Mazina was placed in a shelter home in North 24 Parganas.
