On 18th May, Freedom Firm team in Nagpur learned that the police had conducted a rescue operation in Wathoda and had rescued 4 girls: Pallavi, Suchi, Tanvi, and Vaani. The police once again initiated a rescue operation on the 20th in Akola and rescued Vinu. The police arrested a total of 3 brothel keepers and filed criminal complaints against them. Asha, Nagpur’s Regional Director shared about Freedom Firm’s work with the police and offered to help. The police handed the responsibility of all the post-raid follow-up to Freedom Firm staff.

Freedom Firm’s legal team will be in touch with the public prosecutor to advocate on behalf of the victims as legal proceedings develop. Freedom Firm social workers will travel to the victims’ homes and interview the girls’ families and neighbors to see if it safe for the girls to return home. They will submit their findings in reports to the police and the Child Welfare Committee.

Our social workers will counsel the girls and make sure they can attend the life skill classes to empower them once they are released from the shelter home.
