On 10th October 2024, we got intel about a suspected minor and a Bangladeshi victim being exploited at a lodge in Nashik, Maharashtra. After verifying all the details we left for Nashik late that night.

On 11th October, we took all the evidence we had and after taking an appointment met with the Police Commissioner.  After a productive meeting, we met with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, (Crime),  and presented all the information we had on the case.  He was also agreeable to initiate the raid. Due to the festival that weekend, there was talk about postponing the raid as many police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order.

We requested them to initiate the raid that day itself as there was a high chance of the victims being moved and the trail going cold.  The police agreed.

On 11th October at  8:00 pm the police and our team raided the lodge in Nashik and rescued the suspected minor along with three other women (two of them were Bangladeshis).  The police arrested the manager of the lodge and two customers.  The police proceeded to collect incriminating evidence from the lodge. At 11:30 pm, the police completed writing their reports after which the victim, accused and our team proceeded to the police station.

On 12th October at 5:30 am, the police completed filing the First Information Reports. A little later our social worker accompanied the victims for their medical check up.

Later that day, the police escorted the victims to Nashik District Court. While the victims were being produced before the court, an advocate came and tried to get the victims to sign a document but our social worker reprimanded the advocate.  The advocate then tried to get permission from the court to get the victims to sign the document, but the court denied the advocate’s request.

The victims are currently in a shelter home.
