The writ petition filed at the Nagpur Court involving the Child Welfare Committee and the release of rescued girls without proper verification has been gathering momentum in the past few days.
We argued that the girls housed at the shelter homes are oftentimes handed over to their traffickers/brothel owners, who claim custody of them. This is done without proper verification being done on the applicant. The Child Welfare Committee responded to our argument in May.We have filed our argument for the second time stating where the Child Welfare Committee was making errors in handling of ITPA(Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act,1956) cases. We will wait a few weeks for the Child Welfare Committee to respond again. That would complete 2 rounds of written arguments. After that, we go for oral arguments and orders from the Judge.
