On 30th August 2026,  we received intel about a minor victim being exploited at a hotel in Sangli, Maharashtra.  We left to verify the lead. After verifying the lead we left for Sangli (236 kms.)

On 1st September we left to meet the Superintendent of Police, SP,  Sangli at 2:00 pm.    We were asked to come in the evening.

At 5:39 pm our team visited the police station again to meet the SP. The SP was still busy with some police matters and we were asked to come again the next day.

On 2nd September,  we were at the police station at 4:39 pm to meet the SP.  Since he was busy we were asked to come back to his office at 6:30 pm.

At 6:30 pm we were at the SP’s office.  He was still busy with police matters so we contacted the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit,  AHTU in Sangli.

We spoke over the phone  to an officer from the AHTU and shared the intel we had received and verified. The officer asked us to come to the AHTU office in Sangli the following day. He also mentioned that he would coordinate with his senior officers and get their support for the rescue.

On 3rd September, we met with the AHTU officer and shared the information. We were hoping to meet the Police Inspector, PI,  who would be leading the rescue and request for a support team. The AHTU officer mentioned that the PI was not available that day, but he gave permission to assign a support team.

At 3:45 pm we submitted a letter to the PI and shared the details. The police and our team discussed rescue strategies. After all the necessary documents were prepared the AHTU team, a lady police-sub inspector and our team left for the victim’s location at 4:59 pm.

At 5:22 the AHTU and our team raided the hotel and rescued the victim, a  17 year old minor. A 22 year old victim who was present was also rescued.   Our team took the victims to a separate room as the victims  were scared when they saw the police team.

The police’s investigation revealed that the hotel was being run as a brothel. On the first floor there was a  waiting hall and reception area, along with a cooking area and three washrooms. The second floor had three small rooms where minors and women were forced to service customers.  The rooms were extremely small and cramped, providing very little space for the girls. The beds were dirty, while the toilets were unhygienic and reeked.

The police arrested the brothel manager and one other person who was at the brothel.  They both were taken into custody.

At 10:05 pm, Our social worker accompanied the victims for their medical tests after which the victims were escorted to the police where the police completed filing the First Information Report.

At 12:38 am,  the police team, the AHTU,  and our team escorted the victims to a shelter home. The victims were placed at a protective  home at 1:05 am.

On 4th September the victims were then produced at the Judicial Magistrate of the First Class Court (JMFC). Their statements were recorded.

The 17 year old was moved to a protective home and the major victim was taken back to the same shelter home after her rescue.
